Wellbeing
This fresh, new Paediatrics Unit provides a contemporary environment and space standards and will support the ethos of providing care for children by alleviating fear & anxiety, maximising patient security & safety, and creating a holistic, healing and ‘family-centred’ environment.
The Paediatric Ward will serve ages ranging from 0-18 who have widely varying needs & a different set of guidance. Security, child safety & visual connectivity for staff is key.
Younger children are naturally inquisitive and enthusiastic with no preconceptions. The spaces should be inspiring and designed to provide enough stimulation for enquiring minds without being overly so, and also appropriate in style/ aesthetic for older patients and visitors.
Palettes remain colourful but soft and restrained to appeal ‘to all’ without any gimmick, and to ensure a design with longevity that won’t easily date. A variety of seating from large and mobile poufs and fun, durable armchairs to upholstered tiered seating and individual cosy nooks have been provided to offer a choice to patients & visitors. There is plenty of flexible space for multiple families and play. A variety of ceiling solutions, wall treatments and acoustic performance play an important part in these key spaces with the aim of creating non-clinical and stress-free environments.
The creation of an inspiring ‘teen zone’ or ‘adolescent lounge’ for older patients on the ward will encourage interaction as well as providing safe & private ‘Snug’ Space as alternative to their bedrooms with Wifi access and plug & play options.
